Gerresheimer Expands Capacity for Glass Vials

Gerresheimer is adding capacity for glass vials at sites in Germany, China, and the US, the company announced in a Jan. 27, 2022 press release. At Wertheim in Germany, the company will increase production capacity by 150 million vials per year and create 70 new jobs.

The company has primarily served European demand for vials from its plants in Boleslawiec, Poland and Chalon, France, but the new capacity will make the Wertheim plant one of the leading vial production sites in Europe. The investment is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

According to the press release, Gerresheimer’s vial capacity is nearly 50 percent higher than prior to the pandemic. The vials are needed for vaccines and other injectable drugs.
