The company issues a voluntary recall of a lot of 0.9% sodium chloride solution due to particulate matter.

Baxter International has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Irrigation, USP, 500mL Plastic Pour Bottle solution, according to a Feb. 17, 2016 press release. The recall comes after a customer complaint of the presence of particulate matter that was identified as an insect. The recalled lot was distributed in the United States from Nov. 12, 2015 to Jan. 11, 2016.

According to Baxter, the company has not received any reports of adverse events related to the recalled solution. Sodium chloride irrigation solution is used to rinse debris and residue from wounds and/or used for irrigation during surgical procedures. Solution contaminated with foreign material may potentially cause complications, including inflammatory reactions or infection, depending on where the irrigation is used.
