The BioPharm Brief: Breakthrough Biologics and Long-Term Wins in IBD and Beyond

Phase III data in thyroid eye disease, long-term ulcerative colitis outcomes, and Crohn disease advances highlight continued momentum in biologics and immunology innovation.

Welcome to The BioPharm Brief, your quick daily rundown of the latest developments shaping the biopharmaceutical industry. Today, we’re covering new Phase III data in thyroid eye disease, long-term durability in ulcerative colitis, and promising results in a difficult-to-treat form of Crohn disease.

First up, Viridian Therapeutics has reported positive Phase III REVEAL-2 data for its investigational therapy veligrotug, also known as VRDN-001, in chronic thyroid eye disease. The results show statistically significant improvements in proptosis and overall response rates, supporting the potential for expanded treatment options in a condition where long-term management remains challenging.

Next, Eli Lilly and Company shared new long-term data for Omvoh, or mirikizumab, in ulcerative colitis. Results indicate that a substantial proportion of patients maintained disease clearance through four years, including clinical, endoscopic, and histologic remission—an increasingly important composite endpoint as treatment goals evolve toward deeper, more durable outcomes.

Finally, in Crohn disease, Johnson & Johnson reported Phase III FUZION data showing that guselkumab significantly improved fistula remission rates compared to placebo in patients with perianal fistulizing disease. The findings highlight a meaningful step forward in a patient population with limited treatment options and significant disease burden.

Taken together, these updates underscore continued innovation in immunology, with a focus on durability, targeted mechanisms, and addressing high unmet needs.
