Event Overview:

Protein purity analysis is essential in biochemical research and biopharmaceutical development. In this webinar, learn how to achieve high-throughput protein analysis using a multi-capillary electrophoresis system that utilizes label-free native fluorescence detection. Compared to traditional ultraviolet-based methods, this technology offers parallel sample processing for improved throughput and enhances sensitivity by about tenfold, all without the need for fluorescent dye labeling.

The native fluorescence approach enables detection at lower sample concentrations and avoids dye-related artifacts. Its stable baseline simplifies data analysis and supports efficient batch processing. Overall, multi-capillary electrophoresis with native fluorescence is a powerful tool for analyzing complex protein mixtures, with significant applications in quality control, formulation, process development, and protein stability assessments.

Speakers:

Brian Wei, Ph.D.
Principal Scientist – Process Analytics
Sanofi

Dr. Brian Wei joined Sanofi in 2021 as Senior Scientist and manages a Separation Science subgroup in BioProcess Analytics under Global CMC Development. Brian is responsible for managing a group to support various bioprocess testing and leads the separation science innovation to address future analytical challenges.

Before joining Sanofi, Brian worked for Sciex, ProteinSimple, and BioVidria, focusing on the development of new separation technologies for new bioinstrumentations. During his academic years, Brian collaborated with multiple companies in instrumentation and microfluidic devices. He also collaborated with several pharma companies and Mayo Clinic, for analytical development using new technologies.

Brian earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Detroit Mercy, a M.S in Chemistry (Organocatalysis) from Oakland University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry (Analytical/Organic/Chemical biology) from Purdue University.

Fang Wang, Ph.D.
Senior Product Manager CE
SCIEX

Fang Wang is a Sr. Product Manager at SCIEX, focusing on delivering new capabilities for SCIEX’s next generation capillary electrophoresis (CE). She engages directly with customers to help shape these new products and ensures these products meet their needs. She loves the complexity of her job, carefully crafting from customer requirements, drawing on her own experience, and the trends she follows in the BioPharma market to deliver workflows and solutions that support customers.

She completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Boston College in 2012. There, she focused on using chromatographic and spectroscopic technologies for peptide and protein characterization. In 2013, she started working as an Analytical Scientist at Amgen and later at Agensys. At both roles, she focused on biological product characterization and participated in multiple IND filings. She holds extensive experience in multiple separation techniques, including CE and liquid chromatography (LC).

Most recently, she joined SCIEX in 2017 as a Biopharma Development Scientist working on novel application development in CE and CE-mass spectrometry (MS) and later LC-MS. Her current area of focus is working exclusively with customers, R&D, and the Product Management team to provide customers with comprehensive solutions targeting next-generation biologics characterization.
