Celularity Partners with MuseCell Innovations to Manufacture Allogeneic Cell Therapy Products in the US
Celularity has entered a US manufacturing collaboration with MuseCell Innovations to produce Dezawa MuseCells and related exosome and secretome products at Celularity's Florham Park, New Jersey facility, a relationship that could generate more than $300 million in aggregate purchases over five years.
Celularity and MuseCell Innovations (MCI), owner of the Dezawa MuseCell (DMC) platform, announced a US-based manufacturing collaboration under which Celularity will establish domestic production of Singapore-based Dezawa MuseCells at its Florham Park, New Jersey facility.¹ The initial program covers manufacturing capability for DMC preparations, authenticated through perinatal, bone marrow, or adipose qualified starting material under the licensed Dezawa Method, along with DMC-derived products including Dezawa MuseExosomes and Dezawa MuseSecretome, each supported by dedicated manufacturing processes and release criteria specific to its product profile.¹
What's the scale and structure of the deal?
Following the initial project, Celularity and MCI intend to build a broader manufacturing relationship across additional products and programs.¹ Based on current market conditions and MCI's projections for the Dezawa MuseCell platform, MCI believes the expanded relationship could generate more than $300 million in aggregate purchases from Celularity over the next five years, an estimate reflecting potential future programs beyond the initial project.¹ The collaboration is also expected to create more than 200 high-tech jobs at the Florham Park site across biomanufacturing, quality control, engineering, and support functions.¹

"Our collaboration with MCI demonstrates how the manufacturing infrastructure and cellular expertise we have built can also support innovative third-party technologies."¹
What manufacturing capacity does Celularity bring?
Celularity operates a 147,215-square-foot purpose-built facility in Florham Park with a cGMP-ready manufacturing center comprising nine Grade C/ISO 7 and six Grade D/ISO 8 suites designed for commercial production of cellular therapies and advanced biomaterials.¹ Its integrated capabilities span process development, product-specific chemistry, manufacturing and controls, advanced cell manufacturing, analytical methods, and quality systems.¹ This deal adds a third-party contract manufacturing role to Celularity's business alongside its own pipeline, including cenplacel-L, its placental-derived allogeneic cell therapy.¹
This kind of allogeneic manufacturing capacity is increasingly in demand across the cell therapy sector: BioPharm International© has reported that allogeneic approaches, built from healthy-donor or renewable cell sources rather than patient-specific material, introduce their own complexities around donor-cell sourcing, expansion yield variability, and large-scale process optimization.² "This approach makes allogeneic therapies more attractive, but introduces new complexities related to sourcing and handling of cells from different donors that can trigger immune responses in the recipient's body," Nikhil Tyagi, director of cell therapy process development at Center for Breakthrough Medicines, explained in earlier BioPharm International coverage of allogeneic cell expansion challenges, unrelated to this collaboration specifically.² Broader industry estimates also suggest current cell and gene therapy manufacturing capacity runs well short of what the pipeline would use if it were available.³
What's next?
Manufacturing under the initial program is expected to establish US production capability for MCI-authenticated Dezawa MuseCell preparations, with the two companies planning to expand into additional products and programs as the collaboration develops.¹ New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill highlighted the deal as part of the state's advanced biomanufacturing growth.⁴
