Shimadzu Scientific Instruments introduced several new products at Pittcon 2013.

The Nexera X2 UHPLC Series perform analysis at pressures up to 19,000 psi. The autosamplers provide near-zero carryover, support ultra-fast analysis with a 14-sec. cycle time and injection reproducibility down to 0.1ul injection volumes. It can be configured with a variety of solvent delivery units and column ovens. A new mobile phase blending function automates mobile phase preparation tasks for greater efficiency.

The LCMS-8040, a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer, incorporates improved ion optics (UF-Lens), which integrate two multi-pole RF ion guides, and UFsweeper II collision cell technology to provide higher multiple reaction-monitoring (MRM) sensitivity. A five-fold increase in sensitivity (reserpine, S/N ratio) has been achieved by improving ion focusing and minimizing ion losses between multi-pole lenses.

Quan Solution, quantitative open access software for use with the LCMS-8030, LCMS-8040, and LabSolutions LCMS, gives users unfamiliar with LCMS software the opportunity to perform LC/MS/MS analysis using pre-set methods without extensive training.

Open Access Method Toolbox Software for LCMS is a purification method scouting software that assists with method optimization to increase the productivity of pharmaceutical laboratories and contract research organizations. With the Method Toolbox, chemists can analyze up to 96 methods, 16 mobile phase solvents and six columns in one batch.

EZ-SX Tabletop Testers is a compact model ideal for the evaluation of pharmaceuticals and their packaging. The capacity of the load cell ranges from 1 N to 500 N, and the maximum stroke is 500 mm. Its test speed range is 0.001 to 1,000 mm/min.

Other introductions include the i3D cloud-based enterprise informatics service for laboratories; the GCMS-TQ8030 triple quadrupole mass spectrometer; the Tracera GC with BID-2010 Plus; a simulated distillation GC system; and the HS-20 Series Headspace samplers.
