SciLog, Inc. (Middleton, WI), a privately held company that designs and manufactures computer-controlled bioprocessing equipment, has announced the signing of a patent licensing agreement with GE Healthcare (Somerset, NJ). This agreement provides GE Healthcare with a worldwide license for a manifold system that enables the company to manufacture and market automated single-use purification platforms for use in biopharmaceutical production. The technology is covered by US and international patents that have been granted to SciLog, Inc.

Ready-to-use processing and fluid handling platforms are used increasingly in biopharmaceutical processing of monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, proteins, and other biologically derived materials. The solution to be processed is aseptically connected to the inlet of the presanitized holding or purification platform. The purified product is collected aseptically at the outlet of the closed platform. The flow path of the platform is discarded once the final product has been collected.
