China-based biopharmaceutical company Simcere Zaiming, a subsidiary of Simcere Pharmaceutical Group, has entered into an exclusive global license agreement with Roche for the development and commercialization of SIM0660, a tri-specific antibody targeting CD79a, CD19, and CD3 with potential across B-cell-mediated diseases, the company announced September 1, 2026.¹

Under the agreement, Simcere Zaiming is eligible to receive up to $1.53 billion in total payments, including a $75 million upfront payment and tiered double-digit royalties on future net sales, while Roche gains exclusive global rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize the molecule.

How does SIM0660 work?
SIM0660 was developed using Simcere Zaiming's T-cell engager poly-specific antibody technology and combines a CD3-engaging arm with binding domains targeting the B-cell antigens CD79a and CD19, designed to induce potent T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity while limiting cytokine release. Simultaneously engaging two distinct B-cell antigens is intended to provide broader coverage across B-cell-mediated diseases and may offer a differentiated option for patients previously treated with CD20- or CD19-directed therapies, according to the company. The candidate also has therapeutic potential in B-cell-mediated autoimmune diseases through targeted depletion of pathogenic B cells.¹
Multispecific antibodies like SIM0660 carry distinct development challenges beyond conventional monoclonal antibodies. "These hurdles matter because they directly affect how fast we can develop therapies, their quality, manufacturability, and how predictable regulatory approval is—all key to getting these innovations to patients," said Sherry Gu, PhD, chief technology officer and executive vice president, WuXi Biologics, in a previous interview with BioPharm International®.²
How does this fit into Roche and Genentech's broader dealmaking strategy?
This licensing agreement continues a pattern of external innovation deals for Roche and its Genentech subsidiary. In February 2026, Genentech entered a separate global licensing agreement with SanegeneBio for an RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic program, paying a $200 million upfront payment with up to $1.5 billion in potential milestones. SanegeneBio's broader pipeline includes candidates targeting autoimmune nephropathies, obesity, and cardiometabolic conditions, reflecting Genentech's strategy of licensing external platform technologies across diverse therapeutic modalities.³
To date, Simcere Pharmaceutical Group has completed 6 out-licensing transactions, with a potential aggregate total consideration exceeding $6.1 billion.¹

What are the limitations?
SIM0660 remains in preclinical or early development, and no clinical trial data, specific indications, or development timeline were disclosed in the announcement. The deal's full value is contingent on development, regulatory, and commercial milestones that are not guaranteed. Simcere Zaiming has launched several products in China, including Enzeshu, Cosela, Enweida, Endostar, and Enlituo.¹
