Roche to Expand and Improve its Basel Site

Roche announced on Oct. 22, 2104 that it plans to expand its Basel office complex to “bring it into line with modern efficiency standards and building infrastructure requirements,” according to a press release from the company. The multibillion-dollar investment will help to upgrade existing infrastructure and will allow the site to satisfy standards for energy consumption, safety, and GMP.

“Roche is committed long-term to Switzerland and to Basel in its dual role as corporate headquarters and one of our most important sites worldwide . . . The new buildings will continue Roche’s tradition of elegant, distinctive, and functional architecture,” said Roche CEO Severin Schwan in a press release.

In addition to aesthetic changes, the makeover will include a new research center containing 950 offices and 950 laboratory workplaces, a new office building, and modern, low-rise buildings designed to encourage the use of public transportation and bicycles. The company is dedicated to sustainable design for the new construction project, which is projected to take 10 years to complete.
