Trutag Technologies Adds New Smart Laminate and Business Unit

Published on:

The company has developed an intelligent laminate for supply chain security and traceability in addition to a new business unit that develops intelligent hyperspectral imaging solutions.

Security and technology solution provider TruTag Technologies announced that it has developed SecuriLam, an intelligent laminate used for supply chain security and traceability purposes, in a Feb. 27, 2018 press release.

The laminate includes microscopic, encoded silica particles, or “TruTags”, pre-embedded into standard-adhesive laminate film stock for easy adoption in label, document, and packaging applications.  The tags are programmable, which allows for segmentation of packaging and verification of information in the field, such as manufacturing location, product type, or authorized geography, to prevent product diversion. The tags also help identify unauthorized grey markets and other distribution vulnerabilities. The tags are considered generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by FDA and is manufactured using cGMP standards, according to the company.

The laminate can be authenticated at any point in the supply chain using the company’s proprietary authentication devices, which enable real-time product intelligence. The company reports that the tags cannot be seen by the naked eye and do not affect the appearance of the adhesive laminate or final product.

TruTag Technologies states that the product can be customized and uses standard-adhesive laminate constructions that can be incorporated into nearly any laminated product available.

New hyperspectral imaging unit

On March 13, 2018, the company announced its new HinaLea Imaging business unit, a technology solutions provider that develops complete hyperspectral imaging solutions both directly and on behalf of partners to address specific problems across a variety of industries, including medical diagnostics, precision agriculture, and the quality assurance of food and consumer goods.

“Over the last several years, we have amassed significant experience coupling state-of-the-art hyperspectral imaging engines with classification and machine learning algorithms to solve problems for our product identity business. It has become apparent that this expertise can be leveraged far beyond its original intended use. With this in mind, we are excited to announce that we are spinning-off HinaLea as a new business unit,” said Michael Bartholomeusz, CEO of TruTag Technologies, in a company press release.

HinaLea intends to follow up on the success of its high-resolution, handheld autonomous hyperspectral camera, the model 4100, which was awarded the SPIE Best Camera and Imager Prism Award in 2017, by launching the 4300 series later in 2018, which will add flexibility to expand the range of applications for its technology, as stated by the company. The new 4300 series will include interchangeable optics and new illumination options.

To support the business growth, the new unit added three executives:  Alexandre Fong (director of Hyperspectral Imaging), Janette Wilson (United States sales director) and Kevin Lynch (European sales director). Additionally, the unit is investing in its technical team in 2018 with a view to building a complete user ecosystem to improve its user network.

“Cost and a means to interpret the information have been the major barriers to adoption of hyperspectral imaging, and our goal is remove such obstacles and finally unleash the full value of that technology,” said Alexandre Fong, director of Hyperspectral Imaging, in the press release.
