In this first of three podcast interviews, Dr. Hallam, chief scientific officer at Sutro Biopharma, introduces a non-traditional approach for expressing therapeutic proteins and peptides. More specifically, Sutro has developed a proprietary technology for manufacturing proteins in a cell-free system. The system uses a cell extract that contains the necessary machinery for producing protein without the need to maintain cell viability. Essentially, the bioreactor is the cell membrane for a giant cytosolic preparation.
